Paris has got some stiff competition when it comes to cities of love around the world. Some places just have that certain magical feeling about them that make them more romantic than others, while Paris certainly does have that special je ne sais quois about it.
I’ve decided to highlight some of the worlds other top romantic destinations in honour of Valentine’s Day this month. If you’re lucky, perhaps you’ll get whisked away to one of them.
1. The Maldives
The Maldives is renowned for its picturesque beaches with soft white sand and turquoise blue waters. The islands are filled with romantic, holiday resorts that pride themselves in being top honeymoon destinations. In the Maldives you won’t have the hustle and bustle of city life to distract you from your loved one, just the ocean lapping on the shore and undisturbed night skies – perfect for stargazing!
2. Santorini, Greece
This is another popular honeymoon spot. And one can hardly blame newlyweds, because Santorini is truly breathtaking and would definitely make for the perfect Valentine’s Day destination. The whitewashed houses, with blue roofs that are accentuated by pops of pink bougainvillea, make for some great couple photo opportunities.
3. St Helena Island
St Helena is a relatively unknown destination, in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean but it makes for such an ideal Valentine’s destination because its unlikely you’ll bump into anyone you know there. The quaint little island has an old-school feel about it and will have you feeling as if you’ve stepped back in time.
4. Fiji
Fiji is yet another island to make the list; islands do have a romantic quality about them after all. If you and your partner are into nature, Fiji can make all your outdoor dreams come true. Think – surfing, hiking, and scuba diving! And after a day spent outdoors you can kick back at a beach bungalow or a luxury villa and watch the sun go down with your special someone.
5. Kyoto, Japan
According to this year’s forecast, you may be able to catch cherry blossoms in full bloom over Valentine’s Day in Japan! What could be more special or romantic than that? In Kyoto you can take a boat down a river that is lined with beautiful cherry blossom trees when, in full bloom, are absolutely breathtaking.
6. Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is said to beautiful this time of year and can prove to the perfect winter setting for a romantic Valentine’s getaway. Prague has some breathtaking architecture and some deep cultural heritage to set the scene. The churches in Prague are so stunning that you be tempted to get married right then and there.
7. Carmel, California
Although a little chilly this time of year, Carmel makes for the perfect Valentine’s Day getaway as it is set in such a stunning part of the USA. The small, quirky town is surrounded by mystical forests and countryside where you can walk around for hours on end. It’s a little hidden treasure with even some gorgeous beaches along its coast.
